Ukraine Projects

Linda Norris served as a United States Fulbright Scholar in Ukraine in 2009 and 2010. 2009. She taught a graduate level course on learning in museums at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, conducted workshops on a wide range of topics for museum colleagues and worked directly with several museums on projects.

Projects included:

  • Workshops in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizha, Opishne, Simferopol emphasizing visitor engagement in museums, collaboration and cultural tourism
  • Workshops in Kyiv on grant-writing and museum programs for children
  • Work with museum colleagues on the development of blogs (see the Bulgakov Museum)
  • Prototyping of a children’s papermaking workshop at the National Museum of Books and Printing, evaluation of an audio tour at the Russian Art Museum, and brainstorming for an interactive exhibit at the National Art Museum
  • Working with fellow Fulbrighter and photographer Michael Forster Rothbart and Ukrainian colleagues on the exhibit, Inside Chernobyl: Life goes On which attracted thousands of viewers in Kyiv’s Shevchenko Park
  • Development of preliminary plans for a US tour of an exhibition of Soviet-era toys from the State Museum of Toys, Kyiv
  • Direct consultations with museums including the Kharkiv Museum of Literature, the Andrei Sheptytsky Art Museum, the Tustan Preserve, Potocki Palace, Ivan Honchar Museum, and others

In the fall of 2010, Riverhill will conduct an assessment and develop plans for Pirogovo, the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, supported by the Foundation for the Development of Ukraine.
